It has been my experience that some degree of ride is always sacrificed when you lower a bike. Some methods more than others. Having some width trimmed off of the seat is a good way to get a little more heel on the ground, but obviously will not change the stance of the bike. Some of the higher-in shock sets (Progressive, etc.) seem to have a little better ride in the lowered configuration than the stock shocks.
