Harley adds the letter to a part number when the part is still basically the same part but updated.
There could have been a change in a color or feature, but is still the same part.
It could be as simple as a change in vendors but no change in the part.
If you have a copy of an older accessory catalog, read the discription. see if there is a change in the discription.

Parts with the A after superseed the part with the same number, but no letter.
If it has a B, it superseeds the part with the A. And so on.
Same fitment, just redisigned or as said above, could be a change of vendor, or material, etc.
