Default Street Glide Single Front Disc Question

I have a 2012 FLHX and I am going to run a single front disc. My question is will I need to change my master cylinder to get the same lever feel as a Softail or are they the same master cyclinders?

the bore and stroke of the master are sized for the pistons at the other end.

you should replace with a single caliper type master cylinder to have correct feel.

it's a heavy bike are you really sure you want to do this?*

* chances are if you ever have a wreck, insurance won't cover it.
My wife hit a Guy ( her fault) in his 4runner which he had raised up high with "off road" parts. Including non DOT "brake lights".
Her car got under his truck, and started him rolling. Insurance wouldn't pay out on him because of his mods a minor fender bender became a total loss- we had a dent in the hood of the volvo- his truck was destroyed

I been running a single caliper on my StreetGlide for three years. Stops fine. I've heard that if you swap out to the smaller master cylinder, it works better, but oh well.

Does your brake lever have a hard pull to it or do you have to pull the lever almost back to the grip before you feel the brake engage? Just wondering how the lever feels compared to the stock dual disc set up.

About 6 months ago I put a single disc on a customer's Street Glide (against my recommendations)He supplied a 6 piston PM caliper and maintained the stock11/16 bore master cylinder..It all seemed to work out fine...I just cant get my head around the idea of having less brakes on such a heavy touring bike...But it is your bike...Make it yours and enjoy it.

I wrote this up a while back to give members the "tools" to make their own judgement. I have had more arguments and debates about brakes than I care for and been accused of all sorts of things so really not keen to enter this debate again, but hopefully this will help

Stock master, PM 6-piston caliper. Bike stops just fine. It's the rider, not the equipment.

I ran a single disc set up on my 07 SG with the stock 11/16 bore mater cylinder and all though the lever was hard/tight it stopped fine... when I got the 2010 SG I again went with a single sided brake and switched to a 9/16 bore from a 2010 Delux and the lever feels like it should. By the way... both bike had the stock caliper and rotor... never have had one problem stopping! It is your bike... make it the way you want it! Cheers!

why? seriously, are you doing this for looks, just because or is there a reason not yet mentioned. usually mods have an underlying reason. your bike do it your way, just want to know purpose.

I ran the single side on a street glide I had a couple of years ago. Stock harley brembo caliper and rotor, but switched to a 9/16 master cylinder. It was fine, lever pull was normal, breaking about like riding a heritage, or a fat boy.
