ABS was a must have for me. And I'm glad that was the case because it saved my *** last summer. The thing is, it doesn't matter if it's important to any of us. You need to ask yourself how important it is to YOU.

it was important enough to me that we traded in my wife's 07 road king custom for a 2012 road glide custom. the main reason was for the abs. how much of a price do you put on your loved ones?
I've been riding for 34 years without ABS, and with ABS the last 4 yrs and I'll never have another heavy "street bike" without it. Yeah, I'll admit the ABS has kicked on, while on the rear brakes on some bumpy roads, but more importantly it has kicked on while on the brakes hard in the rain (see below), so it paid for itself in my book.
Look at it this way, every swing dick out there in a cage is trying to kill ya, why not help improve the odds in your favor.
Before I got my SG I had never owned a bike with ABS. It was something that I wanted but not something that I was a deal breaker at all. After having had it, I won't buy another bike without it. In fact, trying to convince my wife to trade her 07 Deluxe in on an ABS bike.
I wanted ABS and since I buy used I had to wait and watch to get the Bike I wanted with ABS that said in 12,000 miles I haven't used it yet but knowing it's there makes me feel better since in the past I've came close a few times in wet conditions. I consider myself a great breaker but I don't care how good you think you are you can't adjust breaking pressure as well as ABS can.
You'll NEVER need ABS...if you NEVER need to make a PANIC STOP. Glad I bought the option on my '08. About 4 or 5 months after I bought the Ultra, I did have to make a panic stop. You just have to learn to get on the brakes and stay on the brakes for the ABS to work. I did, the bike came to a smooth panic stop, no slide, no fear! Just get the ABS.
Just my $0.02
Well, I'm not looking to buy a bike, ABS or no ABS, but if I had a chance to buy a 2011 Street Glide for $14500, I would probably offer $14000 and try to sell it for a couple thousand profit to go towards something I really wanted. Of course the sales tax implications would impact my decision.
I just purchased a 2012 ultra limited in December after totaling my 2006 ultra. If I had ABS I think I could have avoided the accident My new bike has ABS and I will never own a bike without it again
