New shicks the shiznit
The sale: I called Motorcycle Metal and Howard answered right away. He was on another line and called me right back. I described what I was looking for and my riding style and he recommended (surprise) his entry level Öhlins 2-2(b). With the forum member discount they were barely more than the competition--for the best shocks out there. I was sold immediately.
The ride: New Orleans is notorious for potholes and uneven pavement. This is the result of oak tree roots, sin king soils and politicians always taking a cot off the top (OK maybe that part I only suspect). The new Öhlins turned the bone-jarring, teeth rattling parts into rough spots, and rough spots into minor bumps. Does my Road King ride like a Town Car? No, it’s still a motorcycle, but it rides much better. Bumps are smoothed out with the feeling the tire stays planted on the road. We don’t have many twisties around here so I’ll leave those comments to the folks in other parts of the country but I can sure take an off ramp with complete confidence the back tire will stay firmly planted to the road and not bounce around on me.
These shocks get a high recommendation from me.
