Default Harley Paint Question

Hi, guys. I tried "search" but I'm finding conflicting information.

I bought a nice tour-pak on eBay and need to have it painted Black Pearl to match my 2006 FLHX. I have a friend who will shoot it for me. My questions are:

(1) Is this a two-stage paint, meaning base coat (black pearl) followed by clear coat? Am I using the right terminology?

(2) In your experience, where is the best place to buy paint for a Harley (dealer; auto paint store; other)?

Thanks in advance, guys!

To be 100% certain your getting a true match I have found it best to go dealer direct. Other painters can color match yes, but since your having a friend shoot it for you go to the dealer and get the correct paint, they will also be able to tell you if its a 2 step process or not.

Does the black pearl have the sparkles in it? I have a painter doing my ember red and he checked the paint code and its a 3 stage.

I know my mirage orange pearl has pearl in both base and clearcoat. It should be PPG paint but i too would recommend the stealer to get the right match.

Send a PM to member jharanin who will supply you with the PPG part no. for the HD black pearl; then, have your buddy by the paint from the local PPG distributor.

You have an HD "Custom Color" so do the same--send a PM to jharanin to find the PPG equivalent. If he can't supply it, noone can. Another suggestion, start your own thread if you haven't already done so.

Timbo, to clarify (sorry, I know little about automotive/motorcycle paint)... I buy the Black Pearl paint which already has the sparkles in it, and spray it on, and that's the "first stage"... Then I spray the clear coat, and that's the "second stage" of the two stage paint?
