Default What is this?!

I just got my first Harley after years of having a yamaha. been lurking here for a while.

during a an oil chainge last night, changing a stuck oil filter required me to pull the voltage regulator... and in the process I broke off a sensor. I'm trying to verify what kind of sensor it is... I *think* that it is the oil pressure sending unit. Can anyone verify for me? I've attached a pic of where it popped off. Can't find much info on the web or in my shop manual.

HD dealership is a while away... want to make sure they have what I need in stock before I go.

Any help is appreciated!

I would say you are correct.

Is the threaded base stuck in there?

Yea, the plastic bit broke off. The threaded metal is still screwed in. I haven't had a chance to remove it yet... still sore from getting that oil filter off.

Used 3 different kinds of filter wrenches. had to used a pipe wrench style with sandpaper shimmed between it and the filter, and the strength of the Hulk.

Thanks for the verification on the part!

Sounds like someone overtightened the filter.

I did that once and had to use Channelocks to get it off!

Use a channel lock next time and as you already learned to get angry and go ape sh$$ or stuff is going to snap off or worse. Some have punched a screw driver thru the filter to get it to turn a little so it will start to spin. After the factory filter ordeal ( i used a channel lock ), i went with a KN filter that has a 17mm nut on the end and you can use an extension with a socket. Just in case your not aware, when you get angry you body dumps a chemical in your body that temporarily lowers your IQ so that your fight or flight primal urges can save your life. Lowered IQ has gotten many a men into some deep sh$$ so you want to be calm and in your right mind......sleep on it and look it over tomorrow, it will look much diff then.....take care.

use a larger size easy out to remove the internal threaded part... just check for any debris after removing the broken part.. before installing a new sender..
