i tried the screwdriver trick too, to no avail. Sender snapped off like it was held on by spit and hope when I pulled the regulator off to get some extra room. Thanks for the advice - will get a K&N next time.
Thanks for the advice Eric. I was wondering how I was going to get that bit out.
Use a channel lock next time and as you already learned to get angry and go ape sh$$ or stuff is going to snap off or worse. Some have punched a screw driver thru the filter to get it to turn a little so it will start to spin. After the factory filter ordeal ( i used a channel lock ), i went with a KN filter that has a 17mm nut on the end and you can use an extension with a socket. Just in case your not aware, when you get angry you body dumps a chemical in your body that temporarily lowers your IQ so that your fight or flight primal urges can save your life. Lowered IQ has gotten many a men into some deep sh$$ so you want to be calm and in your right mind......sleep on it and look it over tomorrow, it will look much diff then.....take care.
Thanks guys, everything was successfully fixed. The parts guy said he'd never sold a sender before. On the bright side, it shows the actual oil pressure on the dash gauge now.
Glad you got it fixed!
I can't recommend the K&N filters highly enough! Next time, save your self just a little bit of hassle: Cut the bottom off of a 1-liter water or soda bottle, and cut a scoop shape out of one side. The bottle is the perfect size to slip over the filter, so when you remove the filter the bottle will channel the oil to a point just under the left floor board, where it's easier to put a drain pan. Oh yeah....remember to remove the bottle cap first. Don't ask.

+1 on the K&N. I went to it on my first change, seems to make life a lot easier
