she's got an ipod, but having a bike that plays music is a "oh my" factor that only makes adding another bike to my count a better decision. otherwise she's gonna expect me to save it or some unheard of crap like that. So the better this bike feels and looks for her, then the less yapping about it I get to hear. lol
Let her know that the IPOD and headphones will sound much better than the stereo on a fairing bike. In fact, you can't produce any bass sound from the fairing. Hearing the stereo is what turned me away from the SG when I bought the RK. I love hard rock music but it drives me nuts when it doesn't sound good. I would rather hear the bike and road
Road King for me. Love its versatility. Windshield on and off in seconds and aftermarket batwing fairings in the aftermarket are readily available.
How do you ride your Sporty? with or without a windshield?
Good luck in your decision but as mentioned here, renting both is a great idea and some dealers will credit the rental cost to a purchase.
I don't have a windsheild for my sporty. I do only a couple full day riding trips a year but it's do-able cuz I have to stop for gas every 80-100 miles. a comfy big rider will be just what I need. i'm sure with whatever model I pick , I'd be able to ride much longer in comfort
The stock radio's suck, plain and simple. An Ipod is a better alternative unless you are into the whole "Hey Look at Me" I have a radio on my motorcycle thing. I will say this, the only good thing about an HD radio is that it has the Weather Band. Other than that it's a POS.
Id vote Road King, and add a detachable fairing. Of course im a little biased... But I love the fact that I can pull the fairing off mine and buzz around with the full flowing wind in my face. Best all around IMO. There tons of Fairing options out there, ones that are styled just like HD, and some that are a little different shape. Id say look for one similar to the Hoppe models, very nice Stereo options.
I am putting a Harley Boom Windshield Mount Stereo on my Road King. Check out part # 76321-09 on the Harley Parts website. You can hook it to your MP3 player (or IPhone/Pod) with a tank pouch and listen to your own tunes. You can find some threads on the forums about it. It gets good reviews as far as sound and it unplugs and comes off with the windshield. Theres a lot of aftermarket quick detach fairings available but I prefer the windshield.

Why do you say that? I haven't had any problems with the stock radio on my '03 Ultra.
I'm telling you bro go with a police road king its more versatile than any other bike. You've seen my build and that bike was a 2010 with 8k on the clock. Cost me 11500 with the wife's discount so I would say easily picked up for under 13000 otd without it. New frame and a 103 was def worth It for me. Lots of options available with the road king.

I have noticed that Texas is where all the deals seam to be. i wouldn't mind flying down and riding back. and I do love those Police RK's
I was toying between a RK and SG, took a new SG for test ride and didn't like the fairing, found my RK and rode it 350 miles home, man that was a good ride. First one ever with a windshield, must admit I love the look without it, but for a long ride its a must!
Just brought the HD Boom windshield system, can't wait to fit and try out while riding Route 66 this year
Come down to Beaumont man. The dealer here is always stocked with police RK's and the starting price on most of them is 14995 and you can usually talk them to 13 otd at least thats what most have done. if you find one you like, I bet you could get them to pick you up at the airport in Houston drive to the dealer to sign and be off on your marry way ha! Their website is cowboy harley beaumont dot com. worth a look if youre in the market.
