As a guy that has owned both bikes I think you should go as far opposite as you can from your current bike and go for one of the eglides.

Sounds like the RK would be your best bet. Go rent one for a day and then decide.

I had the same reservations when I bought my Street glide. I am now riding a Road King...You can add a detachable fairing to a Road King. Not so easy to take the one off the SG. I love my Road King!

The road king is a good if you can't make up your mind, dress it up, strip it down or in between. Also the latest mods and now off to paint. Let us know if you come down to Beaumont.

I may have to come down there. Make a small vacation of it. My college buddy lives in Austin working for border control. Maybe I'll go visit him.

A couple of factors to consider with the SG or EG besides the stereo. You can get cruise control, nice on long trips. Also get additional protection from wind, rain, bugs, etc.-also nice on a long haul. The tour pack option can be detachable and adds flexability. The riding position for your wife will be far better on the EG and good on the SG depending on the seat you go with. The SG and EG are just better suited for putting miles under the wheels in comfort. When taking your wife's needs into consideration the SG/EG models have the edge.

You can add all of that to a Road King (cruise is standard now I believe) and it rides better that the SG on the highway. The EG may ride as well but it is not the most attractive bike. I had this same decision and I bought a SG. I am now on a one year model newer Road King. Costly mistake for me...

I feel the RK is the most versatile HD touring bike you can get.It can be a full blown bagger or a stripped down cruiser.
