Default Electrical Problems????

HELP... I've got a 2004 Road King Custom that seems to have some electrical problem. Starting last fall, it appeared that the battery was dieing, causing tougher starts. I charged the battery several times, but it was never really low. At times, while riding the little orange "engine" light would come on, then go off. (Same light that comes on when fuel injectors are priming.) Put it in storage for winter, so now I'm getting it ready for the season. Went out and put fresh fluids in, charged battery, started it... it ran for a few minutes, then the entire system shut down. No lights, nothing... I shut it all off, turned it back on...restarted. Same thing happened. OK...one friend says it sounds like the stator, and another says I've got a bare wire somewhere grounding out the whole thing... Any ideas? Also, I want to get a repair manual. Any information on what manual I should get (HD, Haynes, etc...) and a website to get a good deal on it... Thanks All, I appreciate it.

H-D manual the rest are way too general.

The H-D has very good charging system diagnostics.

to check the electrical system you need a known good battery, other wise all the test results are skewed.

charge your battery with a real charger ( not a tender ) get it load tested at autozone.

If you get a jump and try running the bike with a dead battery, your charging system may be damaged as it works beyond capacity trying to charge the dead battery

if your battery passes, proceed. Other wise find a Deka battery dealer and get a new AGM battery.

from there you can test the stator output with a voltmeter, and check the regulator

there is an electrical tech board:

Yep. Load test battery and then we will talk.
