Tire Question
I have a Michelin Commander on the front of my SG. It has 18,000 miles on it and has 2/32nds left before it hits the wear indicator. Do you think it's time to replace it or should I run it closer to the wear indicator before I change it?
I do have a new Metzler 880 Marathon in my garage but I hate to waste good rubber if it's not necessary.
I got 15,000 out of the rear Michelin before I had to change it. I am now running a Metzler 880 on the rear.

Change it. Rubber gets harder each year. On top of that, your present tire will not be able to channel water properly with no more tread than that. Not worth the gamble at all. Lose it.
He said he has 2/32 "before" it gets to the wear indicator, "not" 2/32 left, that means he has 4/32 of tread depth & most fronts only start with 6-7/32. Unless the tire is more than two years old I'd say it's good for a few more miles, now if you run in cats & dogs downpours every day maybe not. Judge for yourself, but tire isn't worn out.
