So if you do this then want to paint a few months down the road, are you *** out?
Theres no reason you could not prep this area the way you would prep the rest to paint...paint will cover this dye just fine...what is it exactly in the plastic that makes it black in the first place....dye...plastic in its natural state is gray or white milkey gray......regardless the dye is paintable.
Anyone ever tried Amorall Protectant for this? It's worked on similiar parts on my 4 wheelers before, haven't had a need to try it on my preferred transportation yet.
Dyes of course will fade after riding it in sun and washing it. Its like the door spears on cars. You can re-dye them. Just how long Kiwi will hold up... who knows But at that price who cares if it only lasts a season
Thanks for the tip. I'm going to try it on my police bike. We ride in all kinds of weather, and the inner fairing looks awful no matter what you do. Usually we just do the Mothers wax treatment to dress it up best we can. This might just do the trick though!
I want to say as a bit of disclaimer....I just did this, it stood up to several washes but everyones results may vary based on the level f fading and discoloration. The idea tho as we all know is the ammount of time most of us spend detailing these machines is tantamount to the better part of the day. The way I look at it if it looks good and it lasts three months, based on the cost and the ammount of time it took to do it, its far better than shelling out 500 to the MOCO to paint mine, times are too hard to throw 500 bucks at my dealer or any painter for that matter. I found it interesting and wanted to share because my oxidized spots were as bad as I have seen and I had great success.........your results may vary based on many factors I was not able to cover or take into consideration. But for 3 bucks it was worth a try and I am happy with it. You might be too. Peace guys!
Well, I'm painting my inner fairing...just because I like it...but..my Mustang GT has about the same plastic time in places so I'm going to try it on the Stang.....hope it works as well....
