Refresh your Inner Fairing with Kiwi Black Leather Dye.
IT and my bagger brothers,
I joined this forum yesterday so I could back you up on this awesome fix for the fading black of the HD inner fairing. Like IT, I wasn't really up to pulling it all apart and doing paint, just too much work for too little result. I like the satin black finish on the stock set up.
My 2000 Ultra has 102 thousand miles on it. Just got back from Texas and spent several hours riding in rain on that 3,669 mile ride. After 13 years and many washes and wipe downs some of my black was almost totally gone. I to tried many "Black" products, even shoe polish, felt pen, diluted paint on a rag, and nothing blends in and stays on like the Kiwi Dye.
If I find even a better way to apply it, I'll follow up with another post on this, since I'm still experimenting to even the finish. The applicator does woke good and be very careful not to touch it until it's very dry. Take IT's advice, grab a cold one and go away.
The Texas ride was tough on Ol Blue and after spending most of last weekend cleaning, servicing, and fixing... we're both road ready again. By the way, I discovered two broken Fairing brackets too. Don't quite know for sure when they happened, but did notice my fairing was vibrating more than usual at idle. Again, I cheated HD of several hundred in repair bills by, Mig welding them to better than new condition.
Two things in closing: There is more than one way to fix it and always plan to spend extra time pre and post ride inspecting. This little critter is a Javalina... very common along that SW boarder of the USA.

Great thread resurrection. My '08 faded badly but the '12 seems good so far. Not sure if the MoCo fixed the issue or I'm just not riding enough, but great to see a fix.

Speaking of thread resurrection, If all these products make it difficult for prepping to paint, then how about, as others have mentioned, 303 Aerospace Protectant which doesn't have any silicone or wax? Although I have no intention to paint my fairing NOW, doesn't mean I won't want to dump MORE money in my SG later.
