I still hear of rims coming out on the losing end...

I laugh my *** off every time I see a wannabeee "Biker" traveling down any road with sneaks on. Not for me. They'll get to experience the "SLIP" sooner or later. Wearing shorts is another thing all together

This made me laugh. I wear skate shoes 90% of the time. I guess im not a real biker? Hahaha f**k who cares what shoes other guys are wearing, and how the hell would someones footwear determine whether there a "biker" or not. Whatever the f**k a biker is anyway/
Yeah, I always wear boots due to backing out of my shed onto the lawn. I tried backing up a 900 lb. monster on grass with tennis shoes and it doesn't work...

The issue is that tennis shoes, sneakers, skate shoes and the like, have ZERO ankle support. Ankle support is important in a lot of riding situations. Frankly, I never understood what constitutes a "real biker", but I'm pretty sure that sneakers isn't part of it. Plus, IMO, sneakers on a Harley just looks goofy and makes me think that the rider doesn't really understand the important role that boots play in your safety.
As far as who cares what others wear, OP is the one who brought it up and admitted to wearing them. I guess some people feel that had he have been wearing proper footwear, the outcome might have been different.
You guys wear what you want but one of my best friends clipped a bumper on a cage and lost his foot at ankle. (wearing sneakers, tennis shoes). Doc said he could have maybe saved the foot had he had some sort of protection around his ankles (leather boots). Convinced me.....and my bud, he always wears a boot now !
Yep, tennis shoes are not the best riding gear. I was hit by a car at 60mph on my KZ1000 23 years ago and you guessed it, I was weraing tennis shoes and to top it off shorts (I have never worn shorts again while riding since that day). Still young, dumb and didn't think any better. The lack of ankle support & or coverage caused the foot brake lever to pierce my right ankle and break it. Had I been wearing boots it would have probably only bruised it good. I think the nurse scrubbing the road rash and asphalt from my knees, elbows and shoulders was more painful than the broken ankle. Live & learn!
