I'm looking at adding a stereo setup to my 2010 FLHR and have a few questions...
I'm looking at the Rock'n Tops saddlebag lids with the J&M Rokker 7.25" speakers and using mp3s from my iPhone or GPS. Can anyone recommend an amp that I could mount in one of my saddlebags?
Will a setup like this give good sound at 75mph, with my V&H dual big shot exhaust, without a windshield but while wearing a half helmet? Will two speakers alone be enough?
If your just going to have the lid speakers you can use a few different 2 channel amps. I have used the Arc Audio mini 125.2 bx, the JL Audio XD200/2, the Rockford Fosgate PBR300/4 if you want to add two more speakers Those are all really good amplifers and then you can use the mini jack to RCA adapter to get the signal in from your audio source into the amplifier.
If you're only going to put 2 speakers on it, then lid speakers are probably going to be the least effective while riding. I would look to add a couple of 6.5" speakers somewhere on the front of the bike. Either fairing lowers or in headlight buckets mounted to the crash bar facing you.
Can anyone add any input on whether you can actually hear lid speakers only (no front speakers) when going down the road.
Yes you can hear Lid speakers fairly well with an open face helmet, full face a little harder. The lid addition is a good choice for those not wanting to do any other speakers off the crash bars. Here is a road glide I added lids to with 6.5" speakers it really brought the sound up and towards the ears when riden. Either way an amplifer is necc. to get the sound nice and loud to hear over the wind and pipes.

Have you tried running four 4 ohm speakers wired in parallel off the ARC 125.2bx? It works pretty good and saves a ton of bag space. I haven't heard a RF 4ch, so that might be a better option.

I have done 6 3/4" speakers up on the crash bar on the Road Kings and yes this is the most effective location for speakers, I feel with the Lids it would round out the package nicely.

Yeah I have wired 4-4 ohm drivers off the 125.2 BX and it has sounded great. I feel that the BX is a much better amplifier than the RF. Higher quality and better overall adjustment and it has an 8g. input where as the RF has only a 10g. But overall both great amplifers. I generally use the 125.4 mini when I run a four speaker system or a six speaker system depending on the model bike.

Do you have any pictures of 6.5" speakers mounted on the front? I'd like to balance out look and sound but "least effective" scares me a little bit. No point putting in the $ if it aint going to hardly work.
I'm not opposed to doing something upfront, I just haven't seen any good examples yet. Plus I'm not sure how they'd look with 16" apes and no window. Thoughts?

Here is how I build them. This is the best way to get large, crisp sound onto the front of a Road King.
