Default Oil seal

So,I got a little leak from the tranny shifter arm,It's positively tranny fluid.Would this be considered a necessary fix or more of an inconvenience for awhile?I got all my work done on this motorcycle and discovered this little leak.I'm making a plan to have this taken care of.

Any leak should be fixed. If its the leak I think it is,This common bugger is a shame cause you have to remove the whole primary (easy nuff) for a $6.oo seal .
$40. primary gasket
$35. 5 bolts W/ captive washer
$6. shifter seal
$10. comp. bolt
should probably replace the inner prim seal while you're there.
With a manual--OPTIONAL--YOU CAN DO IT......

I'd first:
Check the tranny vent is not blocked

and that fluid level is correct not-overfull

If both of those were good, I'd go to a heavier lube and see if that helped.

I have a bunch of old bikes so spot or 2 in the garage doesn't both me.

that's why my wife has no baking pans.

SKF make a product called Speedi sleeve. It is designed to slide in over the shaft between the shaft and the seal.

If the cause of the leak is damage to the shaft surface then this could be a very quick and cheap medium term fix. They actually work surprisingly well

FYI, if you decide to replace the leaking trans shaft seal search for the newer seal that is designed with an extra ridge to form a better seal around the shaft, I think Cometic has them. If you're going to go through the trouble of removing the inner primary to get to this seal consider replacing all the seals on the inner primary once it's removed. Also, when the inner primary is off, closely check the shift lever teeth gripping the trans shaft as this is a known failure point, if the lever gripping teeth are worn the shift lever bolt just won't tighten up to eliminate a loose lever!

Default Silicone the bolt holes like the manual says

If your gonna pull the inner primary don't forget to silicone around the bolt holes when you re-assemble. My first time pulling the inner, to repair the shift linkage which came loose, I forgot to silicone the holes and had a drip wherever I parked until I pulled it again this winter.
Good Luck

If it's anything like the 3 replaced on my old Road Glide,it's just an inconvenient leak that will make a mess underneath the engine and frame.

Mine was damp for >20K miles with no drips.

If it is dripping, first check the vent tube to see if it's clogged. If the tube is good you can try a heavier oil (Redline Heavy Shockproof) may or may not work. Otherwise replace the seal.

You didn't say what bike you have and some of these comments may not apply.
