Handle Bar Polishing Question

Default Handle Bar Polishing Question
Has anybody else polished their stock handlebars? The stock handlebars on my Street glide look like they are stainless steel, not chrome? I had a bandana tied on the bar by the switch housing and when I took it off it is all scratched up under where it was tied on. I'm sure that grit from my daily travel up and down my dirt roads got under it and the flapping around did a nice grind in. I want to make sure before I go to the heavy duty polishing compound, I'm not going to make matters worse?

If they are stock HD bars, they are chrome. There is no polishing or fixing damage done other than re-chroming.

Correct reply. If you put a set of chrome bars next to the stock ones you can easily see the difference.

As to how to fix the OP's problem, I'm not much help.

The stock bars are not chrome on a Street Glide.

Well it is going to be a big mess if you do polish, you need a low speed buffer,and some stainless steel polishing grease because nothing else will touch it, polish it out , then work on the rest of the bars you can get to, because you will make a nice shiny spot, then you will want to take them off to do the rest , and then you will realize that it would have been better to buy a set of taller bars, or chrome stock height ones, and it goes on ,and on ,and on. sorry got carried away there.

Try some Dupont #7 polish. All my "chrome " is shiny!

In case anyone else has a similar issue, MAAZ polishing paste in the tube followed up by some Mothers and all is good again.
