By the time my wife got there to rescue me and we got the bike loaded on our cycle trailer it had been a good 3 to 3-1/2 hours so I wasn't real sure about the quality of the deer meat.......darn! Oh well! The bike is at Smoky Mountain H-D for damage assesment and hopefully repairs. The Ins. Co. has been contacted so the ball is rollin and I hope it won'tbe too long & drawn out of a process.
Wish me luck & Thank God I'm here to tell the story!
We are trained profesionals ........don't try this at home!
Was just a bit less lucky than TKD. Slammed on the brakes, realized I wouldn't be able to stop and then tried to get through a hole. Dear it me at the rear wheel. Kicked the wheel out and the bike feel like Jello but I kept it up. Didn't stop till I got home and surveyed the damage. Cracked my Tour Pak. Gonna have a friend help repair it, and I'll haaave to mix enough paint to cover the inner fairing too. There is your silver lining folks.
I bet you needed a fresh pair of shorts after that happened!
He won't know for a few days yet. HE is still locked up after that close call!!!!!! Then look out!!!! It will be a 10+ on the Luvs blowout scale!!!!!!!
On a serious note, glad all is well with you and you walked away. Sorry the scoot has to get new parts but better than planting it and you!!!!!!!
When I ride through deer country here at o dark thirty I keep my thumb on the horn button. Lay on that horn when you see a deer and they tend to run to the nearest cover no matter which way they are heading. Glad you are ok. Oh and get clean underwear.
Not that lucky here, well sorta!
Doe ran out just as I clicked 3rd around 1 in the afternoon last September up in NC. Hit the skids and gears and everything else I could grab! Never hit the deer as we got slowed just enough for her to get around the front tire and grab solid ground but by that time front wheel was on the white line and nothing to do but hit the grass. Unfortunately there was about an 8" drop off the pavement with a nice rut just a hair biggger than my tires, left underside of frame caught the pavement throwing us to the right and tires wedged in rut tossing us back to the left hard so down we went to the road.
10k and a few months of healing (scoot and me and better half) and all is well with the world again
Funny how I felt that fractured rib on each shot I took at deer this past season, yep got a freezer full of payback! Had a few mods done while she was incarcerated and she seems to ride a little better with a brand new frame.
Could have been a hack of a lot wose than it ended but hey drove the bike back to hotel and back home the next morning but it was NOT a fun ride!
I hit a deer back in 2004 on my big dog. I was traveling about 45 mph and a deer ran in front of me. Like you I hit the deer and was able by the grace of God to stay upright. I Smashed my foot, exhaust ,carb , rear brake pedal and master cylinder, but didn't scratch the paint. Thank God you are ok.
Glad to hear your all right. I hit a deer back in January on my brand new 2012 RK, first time out on it and bam. I saw this one coming started down shift and braking as hard as I could. Hit the deer, stayed up, no damage to the bike, and I killed the deer. Had to stop and walk around for awhile before I went home. I took a motorcycle riding course a few years back, I really think that helped me slower down enough that I was able to stay up.
Holy cow. Glad you made it. Unbelievable anybody'd be able to stay rubber side down in such an instance! Would love to see a picture of how the bike held up!?
