Default Salvage, would you ?

Got a opportunity to buy a 04 road king custom for 7k that has 26k miles. It's an insurance buyout. It had very minor cosmetic damage. It's all been fixed back to new and does look good. Dealer says no issues getting titled, has been inspected and passed. Anything else to be concerned about ? Watcha guys think?

Nope, wouldn't do it. When it comes to resale, your market is very limited. It isn't that great of a deal anyways.

If you keep it forever its ok, but be aware that it will only bring a 1/3 of book and a dealer will not want it, know from experience.

It seems to me there is a couple states that allow bikes to be inspected and if they pass they can have a clean title. Under those circumstances I'd do it. If the title will say Rebuild or Salvage, I wouldn't give more than 4K for that bike.

Another item to check is that some ins. co. won't insure a vehicle with a salvage title.

Price sounds a bit high for an 04 salvage to me.

The first reason to consider this deal is if you are positive you will buy the bike and ride it for many years. If you can answer yes, then buy it if you can get a price your happy with. If you are not going to keep the bike for many miles, move on.

Dealer says no issues. Why wouldnt he say that? He wants to sell.
Look at it this way.If you have cash, you are in the drivers seat. Be very choosy. Find an original owner bike.Talk to the guy. Get a feel for how the bikes been treated. Look at the garage he has kept it in. Youll get a feel for how the bike has been maintained by looking at his other toys, cars, house etc. There are an awful lot of nice bikes with lower miles than that one and no salvage issues for between 6-10K. Dont be lazy, be patient and be willing to travel a little. Now..
If on the other hand, you arent dealing with cash, dealer is offering to finance it for ya and your credit aint that good, well you you get the picture.
Personally I wouldnt even consider a salvage title bike unless its 1/3 of actual street(not book) value and that one isnt. At 1/3 you are pretty much paying a sum of the parts price which is pretty safe.
