Default Intiminators

I am finally getting around to seriously considering Ricor Intiminators for my 09 FLHTCU front end and I have some questions for you all.

Is it a bad idea to plan for more than the immediate future to stay with the stock shocks on the rear?

I usually ride by myself but I also would assume with me and my wife and a little luggage not adding up to even the 400 lb mark, the set up out of the box shoud be fine? I would hate to have to take everything apart to monkey with changing shims.

I know it will ultimately be up to me on how it all feels but I just wanted to check around a little. I guess maybe later down the line I might have to change out the rear shocks as well but would hope not to. From what I can tell, the Ricor rear shocks (and others I assume) let the tire drop easier and faster when hitting a pot hole, and that is the last question, can those pot holes create an exhaust leak at the muffler clamp. I have had a leak develop there a couple of times that I can only seem to fix with a new clamp.

Thanks to all

Fabrik8r has been working on the front end, you should read his posts.

for my riding style, I am happy with the stock shocks- I want a floaty Cadillac ride when touring- that is how I can enjoy 8 or 10 hours a day in the saddle

in town I use streetglide shocks, harsher ride, but shorter duration on the bike.

so you'll have to figure what works for you. shock swaps are easy. tuning by PSI is easy and quick. I adjust the psi for load

clamps- maybe if you hit something hard.

when mounting the exhaust system, everything is hung 'finger tight', then tightened to spec from front to rear, ensuring that the mufflers are hanging symetrically ( for looks) and square on the hangers, not cocked at an angle.

torca clamps are "one use" they deform when torqued.

i torque mine to the mower end of the range and usually get 2 or 3 uses out of them.

--- BUT I keep some new ones in the garage along with common gaskets and seals.

saves running to the shop in the middle of a job

In my quest for a better tuned Intiminator I made some observations that you may find usefull. Your stock 09 springs are rather stiff even for a heavier rider(210-230). The "bagger tune" 2 X .012 and 1 X .015 shims in combination with your 09 springs is not that great. The brake dive will be only slightly better than stock andthe larger bumps that get into the stiff sector of the springs will be very "jolty". The info is already available if you want to look into the modification work and tuning that I've done with the Intiminators.

My combination works, I have done about 10 sets for members, Most are extreemly pleased and none have reported any dissatisfaction with the results, but even if you decide you're not interested in my mods, get the correct single rate springs matched to your weight, and I would suggest changing the shim pack to 2 X .015 and 1 X .012. It won't hurt anything to leave the stock shocks on in conjunction with the new front suspension, but you will feel more from the rear after improving the front. Any "shock" or "jolt" that gets transferred through the chassis could possibly effect your exhaust joints. PM me If you are interested in the mods, I have a couple brand new sets on hand already modified and set up, ready to drop in, no charge for my modification and set up, only the original cost of the Intiminators and shipping.
