So true on the GW cover... And as others have said, many hotels will let you park at the front entrance, in sight of them and security cameras.

Might consider buying one of those security buzzers that you hang on your doorknob and hang it from the handlebars... It'll at least sound off if anyone moves it or the bike.

Have traveled to meetings and conferences regularly. Even some that required a coat & tie (in a garment bag, folded in half in the tour pack). I bought a generic motorcycle cover at Walmart ($30) and it does well, even in a driving rain. And +1 on parking under the portico...haven't been to a hotel yet that wasn't accomodating. Even had one clerk place an orange pylon in the parking space to save it for me each night. Lock the forks, set the alarm, relax. Ride it...

Love it! Now that's funny right there.

But to answer the OP. Week ling vacation last year we just used the disc lock and fork lock. All but one hotel let us part right up front.

I travel a lot on my bike and have only been concerned a few times at hotels. I just lock the forks, depend on the audible alarm on the security system, and use a bike cover to help keep wandering eyes off my bike. I think the bike cover gives me the most peace of mind.

If you are going to a conference in DC then I suspect it is in downtown DC. So, the hotels there will not let you park it out front because there isn't any out front parking in DC. You will probably end up in a parking garage, but that's not a bad thing because the parking garages are monitored down there if it's the hotel parking. I would call the hotel you are staying at and make sure the have their own parking garage. Otherwise you will end up in a generic parking garage blocks away from the hotel.

Is your conference at the convention center? If so, I wouldn't ride the bike there from the hotel, I would walk if close enough or ride the metro. Parking around the convention center isn't good, and north of the convention center is terrible.

My experience with parking at the entrance has been opposite. Nine of ten say "no". They blame fire codes and guest walkway etc. Most time there is plenty room for bike to not be in anybodies way but I get refused anyway.

+1 the above is the best DC specific advise posted so far. Working in DC, it's clear many well intended folks providing answers here haven't traveled to downtown DC hotels.

Riding in and around DC sucks...when you get out into the suburbs/country outside DC there is some really beautiful riding.

Thanks for all the tips. I will post back on the experience after the conference. The one major downside to riding the bike is if the temps creep up and the sun is out it will be hard to make it in the meeting with the bike sitting right there

In addition to loving my bagger, I am also a keen cyclist. A couple of years ago I had to attend a conference in Monte Carlo.

There are some awesome hill climbs out of Monaco, so I decided to take my bicycle. I experienced exactly the same thing. Listening to people droning on when there is glorious weather outside is intolerable. I snuck off but when I returned, all kitted out in my Lycra I had to walk through the lobby of our incredibly luxurious hotel. Everyone was standing around drinking champagne. Would have been embarrassing if I genuinely didn't give a damn
