I'm thinking of stripping down my bike and getting everything powder coated black. Is this a good or dumb idea?? If you had it done can you show me some pics??

Not really a dumb idea, it's just that chrome is more durable..

I have to disagree with that. I am not sure who does your powder coating, but it lasts alot longer than chrome.

Sallyman - I am still in Afghanistan right now, but here is a pic of a bike that I found from Dr. V-Twin. This is almost exactly what I have done.

.
Chrome actually adds several extremely fine layers of different metals, where powdercoat is a tough layer of enamel.

First thing I did to my '12 SG park it in the garage and strip off 27 different pieces to go gloss black powder coat. I've been blacking out bikes with powdercoat sine '05. I'll pass this along.... Try wiping down your black powdercoat with WD40. Shines it up and protects it plus the bugs etc don't seem to stick as easy.

Funny you ask that, I just finished putting together all the stuff I got powder coated gloss black. I already installed the wrinkle black engine covers and flat black exhaust that I had coated. I PC'd just about anything that wasn't an absolute total pain in the *** to remove (like rocker box covers, push rod covers, etc.)

how difficult is taking the rubber pieces off of the Streamliner pegs and inserts? I was thinking about getting mine PCed as well. Actually thinking about leaving the three lines chrome, but coating the rest
