Default Flexible Socket Extension

Will using a flexible socket extension on a torque wrench affect the torque value? I've noticed, when accessing hard to reach things like the front exhaust fittings, that the extension will start to 'twist' before the torque wrench 'clicks' on the desired setting.
Thanks, in advance.

yes, you are correct.

a flexible extension is good for "running" a nut into place.

a set of crows feet will hit many of the hard to gets

not this set, but look like the photo if you are not familiar with the term

even a straight 6" extension will flex and "store" energy rather than transmit it to the fastener--- somewhere in my shop i have a chart with offset values when using extensions

with header ( and most fasteners) use the lower end of the torque value so as to minimise thread wear/bolt stretch and chances of breaking

Apart from the flex in the unit itself (which is absorbing energy and therefore reducing torque on the bolt) the fact that you are using a flexible extension implies you can't get straight on the bolt.

As you are turning at an angle instead of straight on (make sense???) the torque applied via the torque wrench is split between turning the bolt and tending to shear the flexible joint. The greater the angle the greater the error. Sadly that is a law of basic physics that is independent of the quality of the tool etc!

There is no picture. I feel cheated.

I'd to see the torque conversion chart for extensions or a link. Had one but lost it. Where can you get the box end attachments for a torque wrench? Like a Crows Foot but with a closed end.

In theory an extension makes no difference to torque, assuming the extension is sufficiently stiff that it doesn't twist along the length.

The problem comes with a flexible joint where there is an angle in the extension.
