2011 flhtk mpg?
I recently changed out the air filter to a K&N Filter. I have noticed that my mileage per gallon has increased from a steady 36 mpg up to 43 mpg. Engine & exhaust are stock except I added in the FL-XiED back in October. Just would like to know if I should be see that much of an increase and will or should see more as I put more mileage on the bike (barely have 2600 miles on it) as I "break it in". I am not aggressive at all on the throttle, so my riding style is pretty tame some may say lame!
I prefer to keep the bike stock for now with no plans to mod the engine/exhaust in the near future. Just would like to know what I should expect in a real world scenario, and of course the MOCO claims that the FLHTK should have a MPG of about 50 mpg. I can't see how that is even possible, but if it is close I'd be really happy.

My 2011 FLHTK is bone stock and getting 36 mpg. I've got new pipes,AC and Powervision ordered. We'll see what happens then. I think it needs to be opened up a little bit and breathe.
My 95 fuel injected EVO stage 3 was quicker and got 48-50 regularly riding hard. Didn't have as good a low end torque as the new bike though.

Thanks guys for the information. I think I am getting the "normal" mpg without any special modifications which is fine with me. I just don't understand how the MOCO can claim the higher economy rating. Not that it really matters, just would like to know if I have a unrealized issue or everything is normal.
I have no real complaints on the mpg's or the bike in general and I am very happy with my choice of the FLHTK over the Yamaha Star Venturer or the Goldwing.

motorcycles are not rated for MPG like cars as they are considered recreational vehicles.
The H-D ratings seem to be based on zero weight/zero wind resistance.
I did see over 55 MPG on my evo cruising yellowstone at 35 mph all day.
my 09 96" gets 43 MPG at 70 mph. hi flow air cleaner, slip ons and XIEDS
My Pal with 2011 Limited gets identical mileage with V&H powerduals/monster ovals, ventilator and stage 1 download
We ride thousands of miles together and are within pennies at the pump every time
One of the coolest things ever was in my 74 Z1A owners manual was a chart showing that best MPG was at 72 MPH.

1974 Z1. That was a great bike in it's day.
Oh...sorry for the hijack!
My 03 RKC with stage 1 and fishtails got 43-44 mpg. My 11 EG Ultra with Stage 1 and Rush Big Louies gets 36. I took a ride today after I filled tthe tank I hit the trip button a few times to the "how many miles to empty" and at a full tank it said 230 so that would mean 38.8 mpg.
I was talking to a guy a while back with the same bike as me only 2010 and he took his bike to the dealer 3 times and had them look into why he was only getting 36 mpg each time they told him nothing was wrong. He wrote multiple letters the HD MOCO as they advertised 50 mpg and he was only getting 36. They ignored him everytime. He finally wrote to the Maryland State Representative about his issue and they contacted the MOCO on his behalf. After almost a year of going back and forth HD had the dealer upgrade him to the 110. He said if he was going to have crappy mileage he might as well have the power.
I met this guy at the dealership when I was picking up my bike, He was a nice guy but INTENSE as he told the story I could see this all going down. He told me he was some type of engineer for the Government.
I don't know makes you think.....
