Default 5000 mile service summary?

Hey all, I just rolled past 5000 miles on my first brand new Harley, I've learned so many different things in this furom, so first I want to thank you all for your contributions to this wonderful place.
Now my first service I did at the dealer and put in synthetic oil,
Now I want to do the 5000 service myself and was wondering if anyone can give me a quick summary of everything I need to do.
I know I have to change the oil and filter, make sure everything is tight all around.
Do I need to use the same syn3 oil or can I use any synthetic oil?
Do I need a Harley filter?
Any other pointers would be appreciated. Thanks.

You'll need a new oil filter. And any quality oil will work. Get a service manual. It will have what you need to do, and how to do it. Or just google 5000 mile harley service. Lots of lists out there.

I would buy an HD service manual, that will tell you everything you need to do.
Make up a check list or find one on the web to record what was done.
Save all the receipts.
Any good Syn will be good.
I would use the HD filter but others will tell you to use a K&N,WIX,etc-.

Thanks. I have the service manual, but I'm trying to get it in laymens terms. I know I was never booksmart . But I used to do my oil changes on my Suzuki intruder 1500, it was simple oil and filter change, check all nuts and bolts, grease a few items and shoin.
But then again that was a $10,000 bike and this is a $23,000 bike.

Yes, get that service manual, and a good quality inch-pound torque wrench. It's very easy to over tighten and strip oil pan drains etc. All the torque values for the whole bike are in that manual.
