I have AVON grips on my RGU and I have a friend that just bought them for his RGC.
We both love the grips.
Mine are a perfect fit and feel great. Immediate throttle response with no slip, wiggle, slop, etc. That is why buddy bought his.
I'm trying to install some of the Avon Air Cushioned grips and the throttle side is too tight, not allowing the throttle to return. I'm going to subdue my passions right now, but these things are pissing me off! You buy a set of grips to try and relieve some arthritis pain, and then have to work your hands to the bone to try and sand it down to make them fit. Don't think I'll ever buy them again either!

I had the same when I first installed my Avons. Thought they were junk. Try adjusting the control housing and lever. I had to slide mine towards the end of the bar. Don't forget to use a T27 bit.
Put me in the 'fits fine for me' category. I adjusted my housing cuz I had a slight play since they were a bit longer and it is at it should be. No rattle or play, and a nice flick back to idle when I let go. My procedure was put it all on, then I loosened the housing bolts a bit, moved it to where I wanted it where the grip was moving as it should and tightened it up. It doesn't rattle around the bar either. I wonder if different batches end up with a slightly larger tube diameter when the mold cools or something and it causes that play. I had a set of grips on a different bike that had that sloppy rattle too. Its very annoying.
I don't understand what kind of feed back you are looking for from a TBW bike. I have the HD "Get-A-Grip" Grips and although they fit fine, the throttle side is kinda clunky just like the factory grips.
Well, I went to the HD dealer and tested the HD grips on the new bikes and to my surprise they felt the same as my Avons, loose and sloppy. Oh well, I'll live with them till I have a reason to switch them out.

They would barely turn when I just had them half way on. The left side wont go on at all. I'm going to burn the GD things and throw them in the trash!
I have eventually changed the grips on every HD I have ever owned (5). Arlen Ness, HD, Iso Grips, and currently Avon grips on Road Glide. I've never had a problem with ANY of them..... Granted, some took a bit of tweaking during install to get smooth. My Avons are as good as any others I've had.
