Default Backrest Adjustment

Need to adjust the backrest. There are two bolts that can be moved to one of three holes under the seat to move it either backward or forward. The bolts come through the rear fender and are attached to the bracket with two nuts. Question: Do you have to remove the rear tire to adjust the bracket? If you remove the nuts will they fall through or are they "hinged" with a washer or something to hold them in place while you move the bracket to adjust the backrest? Has anyone dealt with this problem? Thanks...

Gunny; I'm sure you're describing the rider backrest mount (under seat) & from what I recall on mine the two bolts are tabbed to stay in place so they shouldn't fall through, or need socket/wrench to hold. I'm @ work, or I'd check because I have my seat off now to work on wiring rear lights...

There is a plastic "washer" under the nut that is supposed to hold the bolt in place. Mine worked fine when I installed the brkt. As for adjusting the backrest , mine has an allen screw that allows the pad to be adjusted toward the rider. I found that if the bracket was in any hole but the forward one it sat too far fwd to access through the slot in the seat. 08 RK with stock seat.

Thanks. Sounds like there is a "tab" or "washer" to hold the bolt in place. That will make life easier to adjust the bracket forward. Smper Fi and ride safe out there...
