THe last time I heard mine scrape, my bike left me sliding on my butt... Guess I need to slow down just a bit and keep a better eye out for gravel in the middle of a turn....
I try not to scrape, but I have and I do occasionally, especially on the right side. My right jackpot has kissed to road several times, especially on one section of a wilderness road that I make once a year. In one spot you come over a hill and drop into a tight right hand curve that rises sharply into another corner. Speed limit is set about 25 mph too slow.
I was taught that if the corner is tighter than you thought, hit the gas and lean harder. I also have kissed on the mountain road that leads to my home. I consider it a 2.2 mile long driveway. It could have a sign that says, "Tight Curves, next 2.2 miles". It gains 600 feet in those two miles and most of that in the first mile.
Just watch for elk and deer and an occasional other critter, such as wild turkeys or a yearling cougar.
You can ride an entire lifetime and never scrape or you can scrape and live an entire lifetime in a few seconds.
I scrape both boards frequently. Wife freaks when she's on. I'm used to it and change the boards out when the chrome is gone up to the rubber insert. My riding pals get a kick out of it at night when they're behind me and the sparks fly.
Talking to a ride trainer this week and he said the cops have to go around an 8 ft circle in training and some of them just lay them over on the boards and guards to do the circle. Do not know how much truth is in that. He did just shake his head at all the new officers trashing nearly new road kings in training. He said many have to be trailered back to home station they are in such bad shape.
Yep, I've seen em do it. They called it the 'light bulb,' the entrance is long and narrow like the stem of a bulb and it leads to the 8ft circle. These officers are less that 10 inches off the rider in front of them rear bumper.
Most lowered bikes scrape often even in mild turns but stock you have to ride aggressively to lean a lot to scrape. My wife's 08 UC lowered both ends scrapes often mine 07 UC stock very rare.
