Default What slip-ons?

I have a stock 2005 Ultra and want to improve the performance by doing the Stage 1 upgrade (I think I am correct) ...

Am I correct in understanding that this includes (1) a different air cleaner setup, (2) remapping of EFI, and (3) exhaust?

As far as the exhaust goes, I want a bit louder than stock, but don't want super loud like V&H or Rineharts, so what Screaming Eagle slip-ons will fit my bike and allow me to add the fishtail endcaps?

Thanks!

Stage 1 from my understanding is basically an air cleaner upgrade. Remap comes in only if you change pipes or slip-ons. I have the HD Performance Touring Mufflers #65255-96 on my Road King Classic along with the fishtails #65245-96. Louder than stock with low rumble once they break-in but not overly loud like the others you mentioned. I had the remap for these slip-ons done in conjunction with the Stage 1 upgrade at time of purchase. M & M cycles gives a discount off list everyday.

The Stage I performance upgrade is as you described it. PN 29773-02B is the Screamin Eagle Air Filter kit for EFI engines. It allows increased air flow to the engine and requires a remap. Without the remap the fuel/air mixture would be too lean and could damage the engine. With basically the same objective that you state I went with the Screamin Eagle Pro Muffler, PN 65115-98B with the Billet end cap PN 65061-01. I'm happy with the changes -- very noticeable performance improvement and much louder than stock but if you stay off the revs where you live the neighbors can live with it and you will like the sound when you crank it up.

I did the stage 1 on my EG Classic, and used the Touring Mufflers that kellazo put on his. These are louder than stock, but not obnoxious, and the fishtail will go right on.

The stage 1 with pipes will give you a pretty good power increase, and maybe a little better mileage.

Regards,

Bill

Hi Bill,

I just went through the exact same thing, check out my post about not wanting loud pipes. A couple of things you SHOULD do as suggested by folks here:

1. Go to your dealer and ask them to let you listen to different pipes on your model of bike. My dealear had plenty to listen too and were very good about this: Here's part of my previous post, and I'll just add I'm very happy with the bike and performance. Also, I really, REALLY don't like loud pipes and it pains me to say this.... but, the SE's for my first few days I thought were way too loud over the factory installed slip ons. In fact, I was sorry I replaced them for a couple of days. But to be perfectly honest, after a few days I really got used to them and now don't think they are that loud. But shhhh, don't let people know that I said that. Fist, I don't lay on them 'cause they do bite pretty good if you do, but riding like I typically do they really aren't that loud.

Part of previous post:

Thanks for all of the replies! I went to my dealer again, and spoke with the guy that sold me the bike (very happy with these folks by the way). We sat down and I told him I was interested in the Stage 1 kit (Screamin Eagle Air flow Kit and new slip on's). He asked why and spent a little time understanding why I wanted to do it. I told him I had done some research, listened to some Vance and Hines but not Rineharts yet. I didn't want anything much louder than stock but wanted a bit more power etc, I didn't like how loud the two sets of V & H were.

He talked a bit about different pipes, explained that some model are almost too free flowing unless you put in a big bore kit etc... He asked me if I planned on any engine work down the road 'cause that could impact what pipes I chose if I didn't want to change them. I didn't plan on any. I asked him about he new "active performance pipes" 65467-05 699.95, he indicated that they'd only put them on 1 bike so far and he wasn't that impressed.

He talked me out of the touring mufflers 65259-00 389.95 so it came down to Screamin Eagle 65115-98B 379.95 plus end caps for another 64.95. These would allow engine work later. Or the 64924-99 Screamin Eagle's (no end caps) 319.95 but these wouldn't allow engine mods. He said the latter would be a little quieter and possible a bit more performance but not enough to probably notice. You can't get Screamin Eagle II's on a FLHTCU/I. He took me to listen to the 64924-99 pipes and they weren't too bad for volume before I made up my mind. The work is scheduled for July 8 when I get my 1000K done!

So I'm going with the 64924-99 319.95
Stage 1 kit 29773-02B 139.95
ECM Remap like 160.00 or 180.00 (not sure why this is so expensive, isn't it just a software download) if someone can inform me more on why this is so expensive I'd like to know). Does it require dyno time, tuning etc...
And of course labor of 295.00

I have the Screamin Eagle slip ons with fish tails and love the sound and look.
