Question about NIM Navigation Interface Module
If I install a NIM with my RT Zumo 660, do I still have to use a seperate cable plugged in to the AUX port on the front of the radio if I want to hear music stored on the Zumo?
Yes... I thought I would not like the cable, but now I barely notice it being there being that it matches the black inner fairing. Might bother me once the painted inner fairing is on though....
If the NIM can send voice directions thru the radio and mute the radio volume while the directions are speaking, why can't it do the same with music loaded on the Zumo? I mean, it's all coming from the Zumo?
Anyone else think this doesn't make sense?
BTW Airborne, this isn't directed at you, I appreciate the answer.
GoodAfternoon TallDog,
Just FYI, make sure the part number of your NIM has the suffix "A" on it as in 76000024A. If it does not it is the old model without the upgrade and will pick up false mute signals when using the ZUMO's MP3 player.
I learned this the hard way, guess my NIM had been sitting on the shelf for a while. MP3 ability is a great feature of the 660.
GoodLuck...Jim

One other question, if the MP3 function of the Zumo (even with the NIM) has to go thru a separate cable to the AUX port on the front of the radio, does that mean I can't listen to music and the spoken directions thru the bikes speakers at the same time?
I'm asking because if the radio is set to pick up audio from the AUX port, does that cancel out the NIM function?
If you have the speaker switch set to the rear light on then the instructions will come through the speakers. Middle position instructions goes through the head set, music through the speakers. All the way forward everything goes through the headsets.
The voice instructions for NIM will override the music in radio, xm, cd, and mp3's. But not a phone that is connected via Bluetooth to the GPS.

Guess I'm just gonna have to give it a try.
NP, I love mine and am using the free 90 days of XM right now.... I like getting lost on the bike and then when it is time to head home I just hit home and have it talk to me so I do not have to look at it too much.
Maybe the local police station or your ex's house ;-)
