I used the BAL-1 on my previous bike for about a month before I traded it (got it in the 'closet of parts' somewhere lol). I loved it, really seemed to keep people back at stop lights
Two different technologies if I recall. I had a CD 48 LED cluster 1157 replacement on my old Vulcan Meanstreak. Very bright especially compared to a standard bulb. I Believe the CD brake lights are just a panel with diodes attached. Not that there is anything wrong with that and as others said it is a great product and their customer service is great. That said the BAL uses whats called super-LED technology. The kind used in emergency vehicle lighting. The BAL only has 4 diodes but output is managed by the reflector design. If you get down low and look directly into the BAL it hurts. The CD is just bright because of the amount of lights. The BAL focuses the light where its needed. I have never seen the 12 LED BAL and couldn't imagine how bright it is.
Yes the BAL is more money but I believe it is a superior product. Not that the CD products are junk, in fact I use many of their products and am very happy with them. I just think the BAL is a puropse built light with proven technology in circuitry and reflector design. I will never own a bike without one again.

I can. It is approx three times as bright as the BAL-1.
I never wanted my last dying thought to be "damn, they didn't see me. I should have gotten the BAL-2"
I have a complete LED setup with a CD tail light and Radiantz 1156 red LED clusters in my rear turn signals. I'm using Badlands Equalizer/RBT module and I love how bright it is. I've never used the BA light but if money was a little more common around here, I would probably spring for the smoke BAL-2.
