The BAL is self contained, plug and play. There is no need to find a cubby hole for any extra boxes/converters/whatever to make it work.

I have run both. They are equally bright. I just preferred the BAL for the multitude of flash and strobe options. Nothing wrong with the CD. It is a nice looking light and plenty bright. The blacked out version looks pretty sweet too. And it does have a lifetime warranty.

Here is a comparison pic I took of both.

I've had the bal on two of my bikes, they do not make one for my FLTRX so I went with the cd on my tail. They are a good product, but to much stuff to make room for. Bal makes one great product.

I just installed the BAL-1 today, along with the security screws (all together $210). It was an easy install (and I am inept at any but the easiest stuff). Only issue was that I couldn't find the "sweet spot" for the magnet that allows changing the pattern and/or brightness. Hubby finally had to help me with that (I told you I'm inept), but am super pleased with the results!

Don't know anyone with the other set up, so can't help to compare.
