Default Quick detach wiring harness??? Huh?

Just picked up my 2012 Limited which included in the deal having the tour pak made removable. Parts list from work done shows detachable harness, but I see no way to detach the pak without pulling out each speaker harness and grommet, and pulling thru the light harness ( which is not simple and probably requires lifting the tour pak liner to gain access to the connector ( also not easy). Guess I was under the impression that a single connector would be used to allow all these to be disconnected in one connector location. I know from the prior threads that older models were not too easy, but sounded lke newer ones were. Does this sound right or does it sound like the quick detach was never installed?? If teh grommets for the speakers are regularly removed, pretty clear they'll quickly not stay in place from repeated in and out. Thanks for any help you can offer. Steve

Default Having same questions..

Steve, My name is Steve as well. I just posted a similar thread, https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...ght=detachable.

I haven't purchased my 2012 EGUL yet, but have put a deposit on one and if I can get answer to detachable harness solution, I hope to purchase bike this coming week.

If you find an answer please let me know..and I'll do same.

Steve

Here is a site I found that was somewhat helpful. Is this how your bike has been modified?

I installed the kit on my 2011 RGU which is the same kit wise as yours and it is easy to remove. you have a connector for the lights and for each speaker but they are easily accessable and no need to lift the tour pack liner as the connectors are under the seat. You get a thumb screw so it is easy to remove your seat and everything is right there. I am thinking they might have installed yours wrong by the sounds of it. When you are doing the install you need a special Deutch connector crimper as 3 wires need the special deutch pins crimped to the wires and then inserted into the deutch plug. the directions make it appear difficult but if actually just lay the parts out and forgo the instructions it is easy. I have read many times where people do not install the wire harness correctlyso they need to remove the liner but if installed correctly you do not. most people also mess up on the antennas when installing them too.

I have heard people say they had to disconnect several wires and get under the liner, etc. I could not figure out why, I guess they or the dealer need some help. I know I would have it down to one connection.

Thanks for the replies. I think that the light hardness has not been installed, or installed incorrectly. The photos in one of the posts shows a connector that is outside of the tour pak. Not on mine. Call to dealer tomorrow to explore whats up. They are a good dealer and good to deal with. Just frustrating to get the new bike home and not have it right. I don't like to idea of pulling the speaker connectors out of the boxes, would rather see a separate connector for those. That may be the way this set up works. Anyone that has the HD disconnect, can you please let me know how many separate connections need to be unplugged? Really appreciate the help. Steve

Thanks. I took out the tour pak liner only to see that the quick disconnect was wired inside the pak, wrong side of the grommet. should be able to get that rectified easily enough. Still prefer the under the seat connections described in this thread. Good project for a rainy day. Really appreciate the help.
