Exclamation FLHT Audio

HD Forum Members and Friends,

My 2007 FLHT needs some audio help. There's a Sony marine-grade CD player with front panel aux input currently mounted in the inner fairing. There's a pair of real crappy speakers with it that distort terribly if you use any low-end frequencies with them. The current audio was already installed in the bike at the time of purchase in June 2011. The previous ownder obviously put it in.

I have been looking at the HOGTUNES line of audio kits; specifically, the upgrade kit designed for a FLHT to get it setup like an Ultra's audio system. It's pricey...but seems worth it. What I want to know from all of you Forum users is...do any of you use this audio gear and...does it work as well as advertised?

I want your thoughts and recommendations!!! If you know of a better audio system for my FLHT, please...suggest away...I welcome you input.

Thanks in advance!

Mike

Howdy smallsoldier,
Got the same bike as you do. Sounds like the same radio also. What I am looking at is Cycle sounds 6.5" speakers with power pucks. Don't take up much more room than the stock speakers.

My riding buddy had an '06 FLHT he tried the Sony Marine grade with after market speakers but after a year or so the radio just didn't stand up to the vibration or exposure to moisture so he bought another with the same result. After two years and trying cheap with unreliable results, he finally bought a stock HD head unit off ebay. Then upgraded the speakers and added an amp. After going to a stock HD unit he was happy.
Now this is just my opinion but if you are going to spend the money to buy a Harley go ahead a spend a little more to get a stereo that was designed for a motorcycle.

I have the same scoot, and installed a Sony DSX-MS60 deck with Infinity reference speaks.
The spaeks are all poly, and the deck is marine grade.
I have V&H pipes, and have no trouble hearing the tunes.

There is something to be said for O.E.M. and the fact you get the hand control, but the Sony has a remote that velcroes to my tank insert and works just fine.

I like the fact that my jump drive with about 300 songs on it stows away inside the deck, and i just call it up as the source.

Default Well...here's what I did...

Thanks to everyone who gave their input on my audio situation. After much consideration, I went with Biketronics. I have OEM thumb control and awesome audio thanks to the slick Biketronics module and a vibration ready Sony head unit.

Good choice. Had a Biketronics setup on my '01 FLHT. Great folks to work with. On their Sony unit, I liked the USB port where I plugged in my Ipod and the handlebar controls work the Ipod. May work for an Iphone, too.

Good choice. I've got about 90,000 miles on my Biketronics setup and it still rocks.
