its normal ,
chrome blue,s pretty easily , id just leave them , don't over polish them or you will end up removing the chrome all together
the engine is air cooled , they get very hot compared to a liquid cooled engine , pipes can almost get to glowing under the wrong conditions , hot weather , slow traffic , etc , don't worry about it , it doesn't mean its running lean , it just gets hot

If you have had no problems up until now, I would guess that the baffle change or the cones are what's doing them in. clean them up and try getting a new map, If it comes back, go back to the old set up.

Did they change to a gold color first? Just bought some Jackpots and my RH side has a gold tint to it where the muffler meets the head pipe up to the the flared portion( noticed after 200 miles). I am running Jamies Stage one map and header. My friends Rush mufflers did the same on a stock map and stock headers, (twice) so I havent complained to Fuel Moto. I think the heat sheild is a little short in that area although my stock mufflers never turned (after 1k miles) and my 09 SG Dyno tuned with SEST (same mufflers) never turned after 12k miles. Going to put a few more miles on and see if it gets worse. Because I have been looking for it I think I am the only one that has noticed.

One another note my friend has a 73 sporty and half of his exhaust is gold colored, it almost looks plated and looks great. I forget what he told me but it is a sign of how it is tuned. Maybe rich?

Funny you said that. It is more of a gold than a blue. I've been thinking it is running a bit rich ever since I got the PC-V and many have suggested Jaime's maps are a bit on the rich side.

I talked to BCT and am pretty sure I talked to Jaime when I switched baffles. It was decided they keep the same back pressure so they shouldn't make a difference in the map. Maybe that is incorrect though. More and more I'm thinking I need to buy the Autotune.

+1pm the Blue Job. Used it on my springer's V&H straight shots when they blued and it took it right off. Got it off EBay. BTW I have 4k on my Jackpot muffs, Fuel Moto head pipe and PCV with Jamie's tune and no blueing.

Will one cylinder run leaner than the other? Does the exhaust routing make a difference and make one pipe hotter than the other?

My rear cylinder (right side) is obviously running lean, and the slip-on on that side (right) has blued significantly while the other side is perfect. The mufflers were SE "competition" models, which I just pulled off and replaced with stock ones to quiet the bike down.

The bike runs perfectly and I don't notice any lean or rich condition. Would you say that the SE mufflers have blued because the previous owner installed them without re-mapping? Since I've bolted stocks back on, I should notice a correction to this condition, right? Is a re-mapping necessary when you change back to stock, given these circumstances?

Bike is a 2003, 103c.i. Road King. Got it with 900 miles & the PO had installed the SE slip-ons. It now has about 5,000 and I just pulled them off & replaced them with later-model stock touring slip-ons.

Some blueing is pretty normal. I've always seemed to have had either the "golding" or the "blueing" depending on the bike, the tune, etc etc. It could just be something in the chemistry of the metal/chrome etc. I've heard that the tune I.E. rich/lean can cause coloration in chrome, but I've never seen it proved which causes which color etc

It doesn't matter how rich you tune it, they will turn blue or at least gold over time, the color change is the product of the base metal or chrome getting hot enough for the surface to react with normal atmospheric gasse. Not necessarily reaching critical temp of the material but hot enough to cause the color change reaction. It's "normal" or at least its not a good indicator that anything is wrong. I wouldn't pursue tuning my bike to achieve a non-bluing result; tune it to run good, then deal with the blue or put some double wall pipes on it.

This stuff absolutly works, but it is a lot of work. It's ideal for a small area, but if you have 6"s or more area you better grab a six pack. Also the blueing will return within 60 days or so.

When people say lean I start thinking hotter, less power, and better gas mileage, I'm definitely not getting better gas mileage. From the decel smell I often get I swear I've got un burnt gas, which also doesn't play along with running lean. Maybe it is tuned and it is just the natural effect of heat. If the bluing gets worse it may speed up the stretched bags I've been holding off so I can cover it up.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot
Bluing is caused by a rich mixture, lean mixture will give you a gold pipe
