Both my current 12 Ultra and the 10 Classic before that would start with the jiffy stand down as long as it was in neutral. Prior to my HDs I had a V-Star 950 and another Yamaha before that. Those wouldn't start with the kickstand down, clutch in or not.

I seem to remember something akin to what you are saying in the owner's manual. My recollection is that bikes which were manufactured to be exported to Japan had a limiter switch attached to the Jiffy stand wherbye the bike was locked out of starting until the stand was raised to ride position. I remember thinking it was a good idea.

My 11 eg starts as long as its in neutral with jiffy stand up or down, once it's started you could put it in to gear and drive off even with the stand down. My previous bike (Suzuki intruder) would shut off if I put it in gear while the stand was down.

My 11 RG Ultra is the same - - doesn't matter if the stand is up or down. And my previous bike, a Honda VTX 1800R did the same as your Suzuki.

I can walk over to my bike and stand next to it without pulling the clutch in and start it. I've always looked for the green N light very carefully when doing this, but I seem to remember it trying to launch in gear without the clutch pulled when I was sitting on it before... not sure though. Like a previous post said, it doesn't seem like there's much stopping my bike from starting in any way except common sense, which is fine by me.
My Honda is different- I'm absolutely certain when I drop the kickstand when that bike is in gear it kills the motor, clutch in or out it doesnt matter.

The engine will go dead on police bikes if you put them in gear with the stand down...I think they started that in 07.

Default 2008 ultra classic start

My 2008 ultra classic will start on the kickstand in neutral, and in gear with the clutch in.
