is there anybobdy else here that has vance & hines HO pro pipe that had /has trouble getting the front header pipe to seal to the heads ? i have tried three times and with both stock and SE exhaust gaskets and still seem to have an exhaust leak. any advice would be helpful
How are you tightening the flange bolts...?? Should be:
- Tighten top nut of front cyl flange 9-18 in/lb
- Tighten bottom nut of front cyl flange 100-120 in/lb
- Final tighten on top nut 100-120 in/lb
- Tighten bottom nut of rear cyl flange 9-18 in/lb
- Tighten top nut of rear cyl flange 100-120 in/lb
- Final tighten bottom on bottom nut 100-120 in/lb
Re-check bolts to ensure 100-120 in/lb after 50-mile run (cool bike).
iceman : i am using the correct sequence but is that supposed to be in.lbs. or ft.lbs. because i guess its possible i maybe over tightening if thats possible. think over tightening would cause a leak ????
inch pounds, 120 ft lbs would probably cause some real damage, maybe even break the studs. It is possible to overtighten them. I've installed many many sets of V&H pipes including Propipes but never had a leakage problem when using new gaskets.
OEM tapered gaskets will squish into the port tract if you over tighten them. I double stacked the SEs on my FM pipe, with a little Ultra Copper, worked great, no squish into the port.
