I second the stop by Lynchburg to Jack Daniels. I stopped there and it's a great time. Just be sure to check the hours so you don't miss out on the tour. Worth each and every minute spent there!
I get a good start in the morning, ride and sightsee until 6:00 PM then it's hotel time...mileage? Doesn't matter unless there's someplace I have to be....enjoy the ride.

Assuming the bike is comfortable and considering we become more curious with age, 250 miles per day including visits is a respectable average in populated areas. This corresponds to a 12 hours day in my area and 8 hours in N.A.
What I like about the Harley is that my wife can't buy pottery along the way
A lot will depend on you and your wife's comfort on the seat,
destination, amount of time you have allowed yourself, and how much
sight seeing you like to do.
Some times its a 250 mile day for my wife and I, and other times
its been a 600 mile day to reach our destination.
Figure where you want to go and what you want to see on the way,
relax and enjoy the ride, stop and smell the flowers and get pictures
of everything.
400 miles and 12 hours with stops along the way will be an enjoyable day.
600 is my absolute maximum these days and that is far from enjoyable in my experience, 300-400 is more than enough and try to break that up between freeway and more scenic roads.
Although hubby can go pretty much from gas stop to gas stop on his seat, I can't on the pillion. So plan on plenty of stretch breaks (someone mentioned 1-1.5 hours, sounds about right). The 400 shouldn't be too much if you are mostly highway.
On more back roads, especially around here where there may be no passing so average speed may only be 35-40 mph, we can ride all day and only go a couple hundred miles.
unless you have certain plans or destinatios you have to meet do most of what you say , just go with the flow , stop when you want , one thing I have found on my long trips is not to stop to early and get a motel , stop take a break eat then if you still want to stop do it , I have stoped before get a motel room then go eat and get a second wind and wish we had not got the room so quick as we feel like going on but if that dose happen you can allways do some local riding and see the sights were you are at , most of all ENJOY
