Yes it will hurt performance, how much will depend on the amount of oil that is leaking past the seals. I hope it's not your 12 FLTR that is giving you this problem!
Yes it is my 2012. When I had the kit installed my buddies noticed that my left tail pipe kept smoking when I got on the throttle. I didn't think anything about it until I rode the bike to Daytona bike week. On the way there I noticed my oil pressure had kept fluctuating. I pulled into the nearest service station to check my oil. I was nearly three quarts low and the oil was black as tar. This was after my service and oil change. Once I got to Daytona I changed the oil and put Amzoil synthetic in it. It seems to lessen the smoke a bit, but still smoked a bit. The bike pulled fine. Once I got it back home I took it into the HD shop. They're replacing my valve seals and piston rings. The front cylinder had 120 lbs compression and the rear had 160. Waiting to see the performance afterwards. .
If the bike came as a 103" from the factory, does a stage iv kit replace the pistons for higher comp. I'm just curious why the cylinder-piston combination would have been changed but still remain 103".
Yes the stage IV kit comes with 10.5-1 pistons. I did put 1000 miles on it before I really got on it. The dyno was done at this point. It smoked once I got it back from the dyno.
