I found out when I lived in Arizona that when it got really hot, over 100F, that I was more comfortable with long sleeve shirts and blue jeans than bare skin. Try talking her into a short ride with jeans on, and boots so no bare ankles exposed, might surprise her. Tell her she'll at least look cooler when she's dressed like you are.

Bare skin right near a heat source. Ever had any bad road rash? Try another tune and put something between the skin and the pipe..........maybe some pants.

I would have to agree that there's not much you can do about the heat when riding with shorts. You are sitting on a motor that has a operating temp of 235* and most of the time higher if in stop & go situations. Any skin that close is gonna get hot and maybe burned. IMO jeans and boots are a start.

Take the lowers off.. It hasn't been officially proven that it significantly cools the engine, but the added airflow will definitely cool her skin and get the heat away from it.

Jeans or having a layer between her and the heat source would also significantly help if you can get her too. She'll end up feeling cooler.

Joe,
Here is a couple of random thoughts....

Try using synthetic oil because it reduces friction and thus heat..if only by a little...

I don't know what model that bike is, but you might want to consider a ceramic coated header pipe. The ceramic header pipe would significantly reduce conducted heat and deliver it mostly to the mufflers. Fuel Moto or Fullsac can help with that. Both produce great ceramic coated header products and this type of header WILL go a long way to reduce heat issues.

Install a parade fan to keep the ambient temperature of the jugs reasonable during slow moving traffic. You can get a good one from HD or from Lenale.

Consider installing an oil cooler as well.

And not to beat a dead horse, but insist that your wife wear leather riding boots and long pants. If you two ever go down and she has absolutely no protective gear, you will have to live with the results. So mitigate the risk and ride with the gear. **** happens, and it happens more often on a bike.

That's all I got. Good luck Joe.

I appreciate all the input. But having been married to this woman for 40 yrs, you ain't gonna get her to do nothing she don't want to do. I tell her everytime she complains about the heat on her legs, put on some pants. She always says the same thing, it's to damn hot for pants. I also stress the point that asphalt ain't gonna be kind to her legs, no discussion needed on that subject. Change of life and they stay hot..LOL...Again thanks, I usually ride with the lowers off, and it is somewhat cooler. Just got hot in south Missouri to damn early...

+1 along with swapping to synthetics, taking the lowers off, and adding an oil cooler. SJ Ron

Been thinking about try synthetic oil. My bike dosen't have cat. coverter in the exhaust it's a 2005. I am also looking at going to true duals and see if that helps. Again thanks for all the input.
