I was under the impression that 2010 was the first year for cats in the exhaust for HD. Does the '09 models have them as well? Can't seem to find a diffintive answer anywhere in a search. Thanks.
If you had a HD 49 state street legal stage II kit it includes a "new" headpipe with a cat in it unless you get the dealer to not swap pipes. I bought my 2009 road king used and the previous owner had this kit installed by the dealer and it did include the cat in the headpipe. I will have to look up the part number but otherwise a stock 2009 touring model did not come with a cat as far as I know. Hope this helps.
I looked into this a while back, someone had information on like the 6th digit of the VIN, it gave examples of which VIN had cats, and which did not. But as stated, 49 state bikes generally won't have cats, CA does, and some bikes bound for other countries will as well. But, from what I have read, there have been CA spec bikes that have been shipped to other states, so anything is possible.
Thanks for all the replies. The concensus is just what I expected. I was looking this passed weekend at some headers and the guy tried to tell me that my 09 Ultra had "Cats" in the head pipes.
