Default Bra Experience????

I did a quick search and did not find the answer to this question.

If I missed it, my apologies to the Forum.

Just put a fairing on my softail for some upcoming "road trips". It's a Kuryakyn (painted ABS) but is identical shape to the HD touring fairings and was thinking about putting a bra in place while out on the road.

What has been the experience of those that have put bra's on? (no pun intended) with:

1) level of protection
2) Surface AFTER "significant" use
3) Noise (abatement or increase)
4) etc.

Thanks, D

I heard about abrasion under the bras from road born grit getting trapped under it, when you see the damage it is too late. Personally I'd go braless.

They have a soft inside, so unless you put it on when the fairing is not clean, wouldn't think you'd have any issues. I personally wouldn't leave it on all summer, but I've known some that do, and they don't have any issues. They wash and wax the fairing before putting it on. The ones I've seen, they fit so tight, that they don't add any noise.

I kept one on my Vivid Black '07 Ultra for 25,000 miles and had absolutely no damage from abrasion. I would only remove it at the end of the season, wash and wax the bike, and then replace it immediately. I kept the bra when I traded the bike in, and the bike was advertised by the dealer as "like new." To be honest, I don't recall ever hearing reports of abrasion from those who have used one, just those explaining why they would never use one.

I haven't put one on my '10 Blue over Black Limited, only because I didn't want to cover up the paint scheme on the fairing (I though why pay extra for the two-tone paint and then cover it up?). With 55,000 miles on the bike, now, I still don't see any damage from road debris, either.

Soooo, whatever floats your boat - ok if you want to, ok if you don't.

I am running a bra on my fatboy with a woodys fairing. I washed and waxed the gel coat before I put it on. I only run the fairing when I am on a long trip so it was a good cheap alternative to getting the fairing painted. I have about 10k miles with the fairing on and it looks just like new. It does have a soft liner on the inside so I do not see how it could damage the fairing. It also fits really really tight. No noise issues either. I take it off when I wash and wax the fairing at the beginning and end of the season. The leather look also ties into my RK custom bags.

this thread is not what I hoped it was about when I opened it.

But, FWIW, I've run saddlebag lid covers on my vivid black 05 since I got it- never been any abrasion or marks that some meguires couldn't remove. I would expect the fairing bra would be the same.

I tried to put one on my sg. It was just too tight. I when tried warming up the bra first. Once I finally got it on out just didn't look right. It obviously didn't fit well. Maybe it was just a bad one. I have read that if your scoot gets wet (caught in the rain, etc.) you should remove it to dry.

I can't believe you're the first one to mention that. Oh well, maybe some of the slowpokes will be along shortly to liven things up and totally hijack it.

I prefer the have my fairing flopping and natural.
I usually ride with my headlights on and the bra just covers that up too much.
