Tell you what. Got a buddy that works for a major oil company. I'll see if I can get them to test it and compare it to other,"better", oils.
I think that's a hell of a good idea. I trust Mobil 1 and have for years. I think they make a great product. A Harley Branded oil just doesn't do it for me because you don't know what the hell you are buying. I know what I'm getting with Mobil 1 and the test results are available for all to see.
In the end oil comes down to your preference. There are tests showing one oil is better than the other in different phases of the tests, and some have a better additive package where the TBN stays higher longer, and some have a better lubricity. But in the end, almost any oil is good oil, meaning it does what it is suppose to. That being said, I use AMSOIL. It's not b/c I think Harley oil is crap, it's just my preference. You can use any oil you want, even regular and it won't effect your warranty as long as you change it regularly.
I don't know, but I would never give the dealership money on oil. There are tons of better brands of synthetic readily available at any autoparts store or Walmart.
So does anyone no who makes Syn 3 ? I'm pretty sure HD doesn't manufacture oil.
Bingo! Im willing to bet the MoCo gets it from whoevers cheapest each year, slaps their logo on it, and overcharges for it. I run Dino oil anyway 6-7 bucks a quart.
Is this a true syn oil or is it just a face lift. I went by the stealer yeaterday and saw this new syn 20/50 motor oil. The dude said it was true syn oil and that they do not carry the other type anymore. Can anyone show me the light!!!!
