So now I'm more confused. I remove the filter from the carb and it looks like it has oil in it. Inside the filter and on the rubber seal I see and feel oil.
And the filter element is not white. Sort of looks like it is dark orange inside or a dull pink? Very dull not a bright pink sort of dull reddish?
So do I really have a K&N filter already as I thought? The element is not white and it is not dry and I see no markings in it.
I suspect it is NOT the SE paper dry filter... Guess I should get the K&N cleaning filter kit and some reoil stuff.
I had the stage 1 kit installed on my `02 RK the year I bought it. Dealer never said any thing about the filter/cleaning. Guess who used the K+N cleaning kit with oiling it since then. Never a problem, runs like a top. Should I go with a new filter due to age of filter/my dumbass cleaning with it?

???
You may have a K&N as Harley has stopped selling their own white fibre filter and the replacement is now a standard K&N. Be careful not to over oil it which is easy to do.
I use a bolt through the hole in the filter and snug it tight w/a nut...slip the threaded bolt in my drill and tighten the chuck...put the filter attached to the drill in an empty bucket...turn it on and let the centrifugal force (spinning motion) displace the water.
If the filter is a K&N, there SHOULD be a little metal strip on the edge of one of the pleats. Don't remember if its on the inside or outside. On that little metal strip, there is a K&N logo stamped into the metal. Kinda hard to see, but it's there. As said before, K&N oil; Harley no oil.
