Folks I recognized that I have the Screamin' Eagle Stage 1 Air Cleaner Kit for the Touring bike on my UC. I thought it had the K&N filter in it.
That said I think my filter needs cleaning or replaced. On page 453 in the 2012 HD Catalogue the write up says the filter that comes with this kit is a "synthetic material that is washable/cleanable".
Is this right? What do I use to clean it? I was going to just get the K&N filter for it and just be done with it since K&N has thier own cleaning/prep stuff for their element.
here are the HD instructions for cleaning the air filter:
MAINTENANCE
Air Cleaner Element Maintenance
NOTES
This is a dry air filter. Do not apply oil to the filter element.
When servicing the air cleaner, apply Loctite 243 (blue) to
threads of all fasteners.
1. See Figure 1. Remove air cleaner cover (B) and inspect
the filter element (7) every 5000 mi (8000 km), or more
often under dusty conditions.
2. Clean filter element as follows:
a. Remove and wash element by immersing it, on edge,
in a shallow pan containing enough Air
Cleaner/Degreaser to cover no more than 3/4 the
depth of the filter pleats. Do not let dirty solution get
inside the element. Carefully "roll" the element in the
solution around its perimeter until the entire outer
surface of the filter pleats has been soaked.
b. Remove filter element from cleaner/degreaser and
allow five minutes for the cleaner to dissolve the dirt.
c. From the inside out, rinse the element with cold water.
Shake off excess water, and allow the element to air
dry. Do not dry with compressed air.
3. Install air cleaner element and cover.

Does anyone know where I can get a Harley high flow air filter that is the plain papertype??? It has to be tear drop shape,,,do not want to mess with oiling and reoiling???thanks
The post above is correct, do NOT oil a Harley SE airfilter. You will see they are white when new, K&N have that distinctive pink color. You can use Dawn dish soap to clean a Harley one then just air dry it or if you have a compressor you can help it along with a LOW psi air bath.
The instructions that came with my stage 1 listed a part number for the cleaner, could not search the number in HD catalog. Finally realized it was the K&N filter cleaner part #. Like the others said, don't oil.
