i have a 2006 road king with 42200 mls on the clock and its making a ticking noise on the top
sounds like cam bearings or from the pushrods
been told it could be the bearings that push the push rods upto the tappets as they do were out around that sort of mileage
how easy is it to do and would this solve the problem do you think ?
it has a stage one kit with full vance n hines and screaming eagle filter and fueler
Only real way to figure this out is to open it up and have a look. What you really need to figure out is if you are capable of doing this, or who near you is qualified.
I opened mine up last Friday, and if the last of my parts are here tomorrow, it should be running again on Saturday. I have had my 74 XLCH open before, and many car motors as well, so I just needed the tips from others that have already been down that road. This forum is a great place to get all of those tips.
yer im pretty good with engines etc as build a lot of cars and bikes but didnt want to go down that road untill i knew for sure what it is
but i do agree its the only way to find out for sure
many thanks for your reply
its been there since i got it but getting worse and i wondered if it was a lifter too skully and its on both of them but mostly the left rocker as looking carb side
Chain slap from the old style tensioner...06 dyna and all 07 and later have the new style. HD has an upgrade kit to the newer hydraulic tensioner, but you need to look into it because hydraulic tensioner doesnt stop the wear on the tensioner shoes. There is another thread on this.

its a 2006 model road king with the 1450 twin cam and im gonna see if the lifters need replacing first and go from there
many thanks for the input guys
Take the cam cover off, the tensioner shoes on your cam chain tensioner system are probably worn out, very common, HD redisigned the system to a hydraulic tensioner, as opposed to the spring tensioners in the 88 inchers (1450). Pull the exhasut, pull the cam cover and take a look at the orange plastic shoes that apply tension to your cam chains. HD sells a replacement kit, to update the whole cam chain tensioner system, also includes a higher flow oil-pump.
