I dont think I want tunes on the bike, the bike is my escape from everyday stuff but, I do find the Windshield Mounted Boom system to be attractive, looks like it belongs and if the day ever came, most likely what I would do.
For the first few years I had a PowerLet power port and RAM mount for my iPhone that I used to listen to music through Blutooth headset from LG (HBS-730 or similar model). I also used the iPhone for GPS so it served two purposes.
Last year I added a Woody's Fairing with good speakers and Infinity radio. It works great.
Your chart is correct, but the interpretation may be off. The chart says "Helmet Speakers". It may be a case of semantics, but I'm pretty sure a majority of states prohibit "earbuds" while operating a vehicle. So I'd be careful in trusting it's okay.
Not to say I don't use earbuds from time to time
You could be correct in it is up to interpretation, but some of them do say One Earphone Only. Using that term just muddles it further.
With that said, where I live earbuds are not illegal on a motorcycle, and I use them all the time while riding, connected to my iPhone. With Comply foam tips, they keep all the wind noise out, thus allowing me to have the volume turned down. I can hear sounds around me better on the highway with them in and music playing, than without and dealing with wind noise.
Bought two so each of us can enjoy our own music. Did not choose any of the communicator solutions as neither of us feel the need.
In the long run this has proved to be the most economical and satisfactory solution for us.
As a number of posters have said, be careful to clearly understand your state law more fully than just the AMA chart. Here in FL headsets ATTACHED to helmets are legal but earbuds not attached are not. It's an easy matter for us to 'attached' the headset to our half helmets and it's darn hard to see anyway.
Just picked up the LG HBS-730 Bluetooth headset from Amazon. They are great, clear, crisp sound, lots of bass if you want it, plenty of volume for the highway and loud pipes. I tried several models by LG as well as other manufacturers and nothing compares.. At $60,they are a bargain...

I ride using a BOSE noise canceling earbuds.....with a RAM mount for my iPhone 5.... great set up, and I have control of the iPhone with my left hand ...
I bought the HD mounted set up....sold it here after a couple of months....pipes too loud and the 25 watt amp wasn't good enough..went back to what is now the best....
