I was in the same boat a few months ago. Lots of people here have said the same, but you gotta ride 'em to know for sure, and the suggestion of renting is outstanding. A lot of dealerships offer weekend rentals, and it will be time well-spent by trying out a couple bikes over weekends. I rode a Street Glide for a weekend, then a Road Glide. I opted for the Road Glide when it came down to it, and I know that's a love it or hate it bike, but I'm loving it. Good luck, and have fun!

Tell you what I think, Deciding between the Road Or Street Glides is one thing, but a Street Glide and Road King are so far apart the OP must be clueless.

Timeless question bumped to the top. Both great bikes. Longer distance, probably the Street Glide. Less than longer distance, enjoy the view of that pavement slipping past you...

I spent plenty of time, thinking, looking, reading & finally just went to a few different HD dealers- all great people that made me want to be part of the family. I just "knew" wanted a Road King, then rode a new Switchback, used Ultra, new Heritage, Street glides of different years both new & used. Then tried what I thought I wanted for years, the first 17 King at my local dealer...fell in love! I knew is the first couple miles that the King was for me. Couldnt get right with spending the 23k at this time so looked for as nice of a used one I could find. So much to-do about the 09-up frame, but I ended up with an 08 wilth 3100 miles for 10k like new with lots of extras...couldnt be happier- we'll after I swapped the huge windshield to a shorter recurve shield & changed the bars out to the "Heritage style for touring" bars from H-D...same ones as on the newer Kings. Street Glide's are nice, but to me felt like the *** was too low & the batwing fairings havent grown on me enough yet. Good luck with pickin your new ride!

Have had both. Like having a radio and fairing. RK has a better suspension and as a result a better ride. Also, less weight on the front end equals better handling. RK has the classic look and the SG has the custom look. I would get either with ABS!

I bought a new SG in 2009. It was nice bike and I did a few road trips out west on it but I never loved the SG like I did my 2005 FXDI.

This past March I picked up a 2009 RKC. I love this bike! I prefer the leather saddlebags and the windshield and the bike just seems more nimble than the SG.

The only thing I miss about the SG is having a stereo to plug my GPS into.
