Default compensator ?

does any body here think that a compensator going bad would make a knocking noise accelerating ? 06 flhxi with 30,600 mi ,gear drive cams ,vance & hines pro pipe HO . this noise is only when in gear going down the road accelerating , goes away when cruising . runns great otherwise . any input would be appreciated .

It will knock if you are lugging it, but if this is a new development, you had better get it checked. Not only the comp. but the primary assembly and crank bearings.

Bad Compensator would be my first guess, anything else would do it all the time..

Sounds like my guess. I had tightened mine at about 30k and then at 55k was having a charging system problem. The compensating sprocket had come loose again and ate up the splines on the charging systems rotor. It was a good learning experience for me but hopefully you can avoid that issue.

There is no way in hell that anybody can diagnose a "knock" sound on an internet forum. It just is not humanly possible. If you don't have the tools to pull off a close inspection of the primary, for Budha's sake take it to a mechanic before something serious happens.
